Allaitement - Augmenter la production de lait
Généralité
Le lait maternel, produit et sécrété par les glandes mammaires, est essentiel pour assurer la bonne alimentation du nouveau-né.
Déjà au cours du dernier trimestre de la grossesse, plusieurs femmes enceintes remarquent qu'un liquide aqueux et jaunâtre sort de leurs seins par pression. Comment il est produit
La production de lait est confiée aux deux seins, dont chacun contient une glande mammaire constituée de plusieurs lobules sécrétant du lait et entourée de cellules contractiles, importantes pour favoriser leur vidange.
Déjà au cours des premiers mois de la grossesse, ces glandes se développent sous l'action de diverses hormones, essentiellement des œstrogènes (déjà importants à la puberté pour déterminer l'augmentation mammaire). La capacité de sécréter est plutôt conférée par les niveaux accrus de progestérone.
Cependant, ces deux hormones, tout en stimulant le développement des seins, inhibent la sécrétion de lait. Ceci est soutenu par une autre hormone, sécrétée par l'hypophyse antérieure et appelée prolactine.Dans la phase finale de la grossesse, les niveaux de prolactine atteignent des valeurs 10 fois ou plus supérieures à celles enregistrées chez les femmes non enceintes*, grâce à la diminution simultanée de PIH (hormone inhibitrice de la prolactine), qui dans des conditions normales limite sévèrement sa sécrétion.Après l'accouchement - suite à la baisse des taux d'œstrogènes et de progestérone - la glande mammaire commence à produire de grandes quantités de lait, grâce également à la libération accrue de prolactine.
